Public Rail Trail Meeting on May 31st

Things have been moving forward nicely with the Bay Colony Rail Trail, the 7-mile recreational greenway that will run from Needham Junction to Medfield on the now unused railroad corridor.

We've recently learned of an exciting opportunity that could result in a crushed stone recreational path in a much shorter timeframe - as little as two years. The three towns involved have all expressed interest, and we're working through the details to get this moving ahead.

At this point, we're looking for ways to get more Needham people involved and supportive of the project. Specifically, as the plan for the unpaved version of the path comes together, we'll need local supporters that will help determine issues related to maintenance, policies, marketing, landscaping, and coordination with the town. These are issues that must be anticipated before the town will approve the lease and rail removal.

The BCRT team in Needham is beginning to hold public meetings for Needham residents interested in getting involved. The next planned meeting is Tuesday, May 31 from 7:30 - 8:30 at Broadmeadow School . At this time, we'll provide a more detailed update on the project and its prospects.

All are welcome!
